Richard "Rick" Wixom, 73, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 30th, surrounded by his family. Born on February 16, 1952, in Pensacola, Florida, Rick lived in various places throughout his life, including California, Hawaii, Japan (where he graduated from high school in 1970) and Tennessee, before making his home in Mississippi. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a faithful member of his community. Rick was preceded in death by parents, George and Mary Wixom, and brother Patrick Wixom of Savannah, TN.
In his early life, Rick proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a corpsman. He later continued his service as a member of the National Guard. After leaving military service, Rick worked as a mail carrier and retired from the United States Postal Service after many years of dedication.
Known for his distinctive mustache, Rick was a man of honesty, integrity, and unwavering faith. He was a committed member of the Church of Christ, where he devoted much of his time to mission work in Guyana and to a local jail ministry. His commitment to serving others was a hallmark of his life.
An avid outdoorsman, Rick enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping, and he was always at home astride a horse. He loved music, westerns, and playing the guitar. His love for nature was surpassed only by his love of God, his family, and his country. He played many roles and was known by many names but nothing made him more proud than being called Poppy.
