Sherry Wheeler Obituary

Sherry Clivene Wood Wheeler went peacefully to her heavenly home on Friday, April 9th, 2021. She was born on February 18th, 1943 in Owensboro, KY. She grew up in Riverside with her parents, Ruby Atchison Wood and Walter Wood, her brothers and sisters, her Pap, Eddie, and her uncle, Clive.

After graduating from Drakesboro High School in 1960, she moved to Chicago for work. There she met and eventually married Edwin Wheeler. They had two children, Debra and Brian. They later moved back to Ed’s hometown of Burnsville. The Wheeler family enjoyed camping, riding motorcycles, traveling, and spending time with friends and family while having a good time just living, loving, and laughing! Ed, sadly, passed away in 1999, leaving his family with the blessed assurance that they’d all be together again. Brian married Dana (Calton), and they blessed Sherry with “My Sweetheart”, Channing, in the fall of 2007. She happily went from “Momma” to “Me-Me” in the blink of an eye!

Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, Ruby and Walter; her father-in-law, Windom Wheeler; brothers-in-law, Don Wheeler, Danny Curtis, Leamon Chatmon, Paul Cantrell; her brothers, Conroy Reid, A.D. Reid, Audley Wood, Rodney Wood; her sister-in-law Vera Wood; her sisters, Virginia Cantrell and Walteen (Tinky) Curtis; leaving behind her beloved sister, Kay Chatmon Moore; her sisters-in-law Valerie Wood and Nell Wheeler; her special nieces, Jennifer Wheeler Harmon, Justus Bobo Hardin, and Charlee-Kate Harmon; her brother-in-law Owen Wheeler (Barbara); her precious sister at heart, Dianne Wright; and many wonderful nieces, nephews, and friends who added so much love and happiness to her life.

Sherry was a member of Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church. Throughout the years, she worked at Ripley Industries, the Cozy Corner Gift Shoppe, and NE Mississippi Community Services, all in Iuka. She enjoyed going to ball games to watch Channing play basketball, and was so excited when her “Sweetheart” was chosen to play on the Alabama Starz team! She loved her #42!

A Memorial Service for Sherry Wheeler will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 17th, 2021 at Ludlam Funeral Home, officiated by Bro. Mike Lee.
